Mahanoy City PD receive grant, training opportunity

MAHANOY CITY – A few local law enforcement agencies are receiving training through a grant program to help improve community safety.

The Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association, using a grant from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime, is leading the Criminal Apprehension Technology Training program.

The program includes a comprehensive digital camera kit valued at $5,000 to assist in crime scene processing as well as free training for two officers from each department.

Locally, Mahanoy City Police, West Hazleton Police, and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office were all selected to participate.

Two officers will participate in an intensive three-day course teaching officers how to operate digital cameras for crime scene documentation manually. At least seven training sessions will occur across the state, covering fundamental and advanced topics, including blood spatter documentation, Blue Star Ambient photography, laser track documentation, latent fingerprint imaging, and impression evidence collection. The program blends lectures with practical exercises for hands-on learning.
