Mahanoy brings home two awards in manufacturing video competition
READING, Berks County – Of the 22 schools that entered the What’s So Cool About Manufacturing video contest, a local school was the only one to win multiple awards.
The awards ceremony was held last night in Reading for the Berks-Schuylkill edition of the contest, which brought together our three local schools as well as many others from as far as Reading, Fleetwood, and Kutztown.
The contest is hosted by the Manufacturing Resource Center, Lehigh County, and included a fan vote, which took place between Wednesday and Friday last week.
According to the contest’s website, “teams of students and teacher coaches receive camera equipment, software, and professional guidance as they learn to script, record, and edit their video stories. The contest’s objective is to change students’ perceptions about manufacturing careers.”
Our own Mahanoy Area School District brought home two awards, including the viewer’s choice award for their Mrs. T’s Pierogies inside look. Over 142,000 votes total were tallied.
Additionally, the Golden Bears brought home an award for outstanding outreach plan, as well.
Mahanoy was the only northern Schuylkill school to win an award.
Correction 4:33pm 3/4/2020: An earlier version of this report incorrectly stated Mahanoy received over 142,000 votes. The contest itself tallied 142,000 total votes. The story was corrected to reflect that.
