Lower anthracite’s first Wawa taking shape in Coal Township

COAL TOWNSHIP – They say if you ask a Pennsylvanian if they prefer Sheetz or Wawa, they have their side. Neither option has existed in our area, but one is now inching closer.

A new Wawa convenience store is taking shape in Coal Township just outside Kulpmont.

When completed, it will be the Delaware County chain’s closest location to the Shenandoah area. Previously, the nearest Wawa was in Hamburg.

Wawa is making a major push into central Pennsylvania, building stores in Coal Township, Lewisburg, and more.

The nearest Sheetz locations are in Elysburg, Pottsville, and Hazle Township.
