Longtime Shenandoah Valley board president resigns
SHENANDOAH – The Shenandoah Valley School District Board of Education’s president for the past decade has resigned.
Dan Salvadore has been a member of the board of education for 14 years.
Ten of those years were as president.
“I would like to personally express my gratitude for Mr. Salvadore’s dedication, commitment and personal time devoted to the betterment of the Shenandoah Valley School District,” Superintendent Brian Waite said at Wednesday night’s meeting.
Under Salvadore’s tenure as a board member, the district completed the construction of the C-Wing — three dozen new classrooms on the site of the bus garage and B&P Econ-O-Wash — the renovation of the high school and elementary center, the development of the Shenandoah Valley Virtual Academy, and the establishment of the Shenandoah Valley School District Police Department, among others.
The district was also a plaintiff in a historic lawsuit which ruled the state’s formula for funding public education unconstitutional.
He told the Sentinel after the ruling that it was “long overdue.
“We were underfunded for years, and people like you suffered from it, because we didn’t have the finances to have any specials and electives. I’m hoping the future students won’t be deprived of what you were deprived of, or my kids.” This reporter is a Shenandoah Valley High School graduate.
Salvadore was not present at Wednesday night’s meeting, and the board did not name a new president.
