Longtime Shenandoah Valley baseball coach steps down

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL FILE - Jeff Maksimik, left, coaches a baseball game in 2021.

SHENANDOAH – The Blue Devils will have a new baseball coach for the first time in two decades this season.

Jeff Maksimik stepped down this week. The Shenandoah Valley School Board approved his resignation Wednesday and began the search for a replacement.

A 1994 Shenandoah Valley graduate, Maksimik took over the program in the 2003 season. He leaves with a record of 172-224 and numerous District XI playoff appearances, including a runner-up finish in 2006.

The Blue Devils baseball team posted to Facebook thanking Maksimik for his 22 years of service, saying he had “molded some special student athletes that went on to excel in sports, college, and the workforce.”

“You will be sadly missed on the diamond this year,” they wrote. “We wish you the best in your next chapter.”

The Minersville Area School District called Maksimik “a class coach who was always a pleasure to deal with” on Twitter/X.
