RINGTOWN – Three local municipalities are receiving $500,000 in grant funding to improve their water and wastewater systems.
The Ringtown Municipal Authority, Mahanoy Township Authority, and Mahanoy City Sewer Authority all were awarded grants through the Pennsylvania Small Water and Sewer Program, Senator Dave Argall (R-Schuylkill) and Rep. Dane Watro (R-Schuylkill/Luzerne) announced Tuesday.
“Investing in our water and wastewater infrastructure isn’t just about pipes and pumps. It’s about public health, economic vitality and long-term sustainability for our communities,” said Watro. “These grants will modernize critical systems, ensuring cleaner water, safer wastewater treatment and stronger foundations for future growth. Upgrading local infrastructure supports both everyday quality of life and opens the door for new development in our region.”
“Improved water infrastructure is very much needed in so many of our communities,” said Argall. “These highly competitive state funds are very important.”
The following projects were awarded funding:
- Mahanoy Township Authority — $89,250 to replace old controllers for the water filtration system at the authority’s existing water treatment plant.
- Mahanoy City Sewer Authority — $198,334 to complete a project to replace five aeration blowers and improve other equipment at its wastewater treatment plant.
- Ringtown Municipal Authority — $212,416 to make improvements to its wastewater treatment plant.
The PA Small Water and Sewer program awards funding to municipalities and municipal authorities for water, sewer, storm water and flood control projects.
The funding was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development which administers Pennsylvania’s economic stimulus packages.
