Shenandoah 11-12’s defeat Ashland, advance to District 24 semifinals

ASHLAND – Shenandoah’s 11-12 All Stars are advancing to the PA District 24 semifinals, after a 10-3 quarterfinal victory over Ashland Friday afternoon.

The Shenandoah team will face Cressona on Sunday at 5:30pm in Shenandoah.

Shenandoah entered the game 3-1 from Pool 2 play, while Ashland stood undefeated, 4-0, from Pool 4.​

Scoring began slowly, with a 1-0 first inning in Shenandoah’s favor, after a Makismik run scored, a score and lead held through a scoreless second inning.

Three runs scored in the top of the third for Shenandoah gave them a 4-0 lead, though Ashland would respond with two runs, the answer ending with Ashland’s Meyer being called out, sliding home, leading to a 4-2 game entering the fourth.

​​Shenandoah would score another run in the fourth, with no Ashland response, creating a 5-2 game for the fifth.

A sixth run for Shenandoah would precede a pitching change for Ashland, with McElhenny taking the mound.

Immediately following the pitching change was a two-run homer, batted in by Shenandoah’s Murphy, giving them an 8-2 lead over Ashland. Chowansky would send another out of the park for a single run home run, creating a a 9-2 game. A diving catch from Ashland’s centerfielder brought the top of the fifth to a close. With no Ashland response in the bottom of the fifth, the game held at 9-2 into the sixth.

​Shenandoah’s Matta would score in the top of the sixth, for a 10-2 score, Shenandoah’s only score in the sixth.

Ashland’s Groody would hit one out of the park for a single home run, though that would be the final score of the game. An Ashland runner sliding to third was called out, the third out of the inning, as another took home, bringing the game to a close.
