LL ALL-STARS: 4th Inning rally gives SPN win over Shen. in 10-12 tourney opener

SHENANDOAH – In a game delayed a day due to weather, Shenandoah’s 10-12 Little League all-stars began their District 24 tournament run with a rough start.

The Shenandoah squad opened the pool play portion of the tournament against SPN, a combination team for Saint Clair, Port Carbon, and New Philadelphia, at Joe “Shorty” Uholik Memorial Field on the west end.

Scoring began with a two-run homer by SPN, giving them a 2-1 lead.

An error shortly after allowed a Shenandoah player to score a run, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

It was a defensive battle from then on.

A few runs in the third inning set SPN up for a walk-off rally in the fourth. Winning the pre-game coin toss, SPN was designated as the home team for the purpose of scoring and inning position, meaning SPN batted second in each inning.

SPN’s rally gave the team an 11-1 lead over Shenandoah, triggering the mercy rule and ending the game with a walk-off.

The two squads and Upper Dauphin/Millersburg are competing in Pool 4 of the tournament. The top two teams after pool play advance to the quarterfinals.

Shenandoah’s next game is Wednesday, June 23 at Upper Dauphin/Millersburg.
