SHENANDOAH – The Greater Shenandoah Area Historical Society meets again this Tuesday, August 5 and Paul Chowanski will give a presentation on Lithuanian heritage.
The talk is set for 6:30pm at the historical society museum at Main and Cherry Streets in town.
Andy Ulicny, of the historical society, says Chowanski of New Jersey, comes to visit the area and work the grave plots of his relatives up the Lithuanian cemeteries a few times each year.
The talk, Ulicny says, will be on Chowanski’s “amazing finds in regards to his Lithuanian heritage.
“After the death of his grandmother Tessie Kanick in 1964 (Shenandoah) and her brother Juozas Kiaulevicus in 1965 (Lithuania), he made staggering discoveries and reconnected with his Grandmother’s brother’s families in Lithuania after 55 years,” Ulicny says.
Chowanski also helps take care of some of the markers at the Lithuanian cemeteries, like the grave of Frank “Champ” Racis, seen above.
