Legislators recognize Shenandoah cross country champions

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - State Rep. Dane Watro (R-116) talks to members of Shenandoah Valley's District XI champion cross country teams on Jan. 13, 2025.

SHENANDOAH – Shenandoah Valley’s District XI cross country champions were recognized Monday by three state legislators.

The Blue Devils and Lady Devils cross country squads won the District XI title this year, the first time in school history that the Devils swept the titles.

State Senator Dave Argall (R-29), Rep. Dane Watro (R-116) and Rep. Tim Twardzik (R-123) stopped by and provided citations to the teams.

Twardzik, a Shenandoah Valley graduate, wore a jacket from his time on a team whose banner also hangs in the high school gym: the 1976-77 District XI boys basketball champions.

The three legislators recognized the athletes for their accomplishments.

They also commended the multi-sport athletes, including members of the cross country team who, immediately following races, would race to the field and contribute on the soccer team.
