Kitchen fire displaces Kline Twp. woman

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - A McAdoo fire truck sits outside 40 Bridge Street in East McAdoo Heights Wednesday evening.

EAST McADOO HEIGHTS – A woman from this Kline Township village will be assisted by the American Red Cross after fire damaged her home late Wednesday.

Fire broke out around 10:00pm at a home at 40 Bridge Street in East McAdoo Heights.

McAdoo Fire Chief Bob Leshko told the Sentinel at the scene his crews arrived to find heavy smoke and fire in the kitchen.

“Apparently she was cooking some oil on the stove, walked away from it, turned back around, and her kitchen cabinets were up in flames,” Leshko said, citing the cause as accidental.

He said the fire was contained to the kitchen area, though the woman and her dog will have to stay elsewhere for the next few days. A PPL crew was on site to disconnect power from the residence.

Fire crews had the fire under control in short order, with the incident held to McAdoo, Hometown, and Hazle Township. Sheppton-Oneida, Mahanoy City, and others were cancelled en route.

Also assisting at the scene were Lehigh Valley EMS, McAdoo EMS, and Kline Township Police.
