Kitchen fire damages west end home
SHENANDOAH – A west end home was damaged by fire Monday morning.
Fire crews were dispatched to 311 West Lloyd Street just after 11:30am for a reported house fire.
Shenandoah Columbia Fire Marshal Joe Boris, quickly followed by the Rescue Hook and Ladder Telesqurt, arrived on scene within minutes and found a kitchen fire in the home.
Rescue Hook and Ladder firefighters made entry into the home with a handline to bring the fire under control as crews from the remaining four borough fire companies and Mahanoy City’s West End arrived.
Shenandoah Phoenix Fire Marshal Rick Examitas said the fire was accidental in nature.
“It appears to be a culinary incident,” Examitas said. “Everybody got out safely.”
“The individual was alerted by a smoke alarm which alerted him to the fire and got him out of the residence,” Examitas added.
One person was displaced from 311 West Lloyd, while adjoining properties were undamaged. The American Red Cross is assisting the resident.
No one was injured in the incident.
Also responding were medical personnel from Shenandoah Ambulance and police officers from Shenandoah and West Mahanoy Township.
