It’s Kielbasi Festival time: Shenandoah staple set for this weekend

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - Attendees pack Main Street in Shenandoah for the 2023 edition of the combined Kielbasi Festival and Heritage Day celebration.

SHENANDOAH – A Springtime celebration of our region’s rich heritage returns this weekend.

The combined Kielbasi Festival and Heritage Day celebration will take place this Saturday, May 17 beginning at 10am downtown. It runs through 4pm and draws thousands to the entire length of North Main Street.

The Parade of Nations through downtown Shenandoah kicks off the festivities at 10am, highlighting Shenandoah’s cultural heritage.

“Everyone is welcome to represent their country and organization,” explained Annie Taylor, Downtown Shenandoah, Inc. Promotion Committee Chairperson “Join us, celebrate, and honor your heritage. If you aren’t sure what your heritage is and want to be a part of the parade, let us know because after all, America is a proud melting pot and we have a place in the lineup for you.”

Of course, Shenandoah’s culinary staples — kielbasi and pierogies — take center stage later in the day. Kowalonek’s, Lucky’s, and Mrs. T’s will all be set up for the event.

They’re not all. Food trucks and vendors from near and far will be set up as well.

The Shenandoah All Star Polka Band will perform throughout the day.

Parking restrictions are in place on Main Street, White Street, and Jardin Street to allow for the festival, traffic detours, and the parade lineup.

No parking will be permitted on Main Street from Centre to Washington, White Street from Centre to the middle of the block before Lloyd Street, and Jardin from Washington to Penn from 6am to 6pm.

South Jardin from Centre to Cherry will also be posted no parking from 6am to 11am.
