Illegal ATVs towed, impounded in crackdown in East Union
SHEPPTON – Off-road vehicles aren’t permitted on state highways or the vast majority of local streets, and some operators received a notable reminder this weekend.
East Union Township Police stopped 10 such vehicles Saturday.
Chief Christopher Dimmick said the vehicles were stopped for violations including operating an ATV on highways, operating an unregistered vehicle, failure to display registration plates, and more.
The crackdown comes following complaints about illegal ATV use across the township.
Residents have complained, some for years, about damage to private property, reckless driving, and other general quality of life issues because of the offroad vehicles.
“The operation of offroad vehicles on public streets is an ongoing issue affecting many communities, and police are working hard to increase enforcement of these complaints,” Dimmick said.
The offroad vehicles were towed and impounded.
East Union also has an ordinance pertaining to ATV use.
