HS FOOTBALL: Spartans deny Tornadoes milestone victory; Wally Hall reaches own milestone

DON SCICCHITANO / SPECIAL TO SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - A North Schuylkill player rallies the crowd Friday at Spartan Stadium.

FOUNTAIN SPRINGS – Mount Carmel is the winningest high school football program in the Commonwealth, and they had the opportunity Friday to do something no other team has done: reach 900 wins.

North Schuylkill, however, said that’ll have to wait, but it wasn’t easy.

Gavin Mentzer nailed a 49-yard field goal to give the Spartans a 10-7 lead early.

They’d extend that lead to 30-14 at the half, a deficit the Red Tornadoes cut into in the second, though it would be insurmountable.

Coach Wally Hall secured his 100th victory 37-30, denying the Tornadoes their own milestone win.
