HS FOOTBALL: Rams outlast Devils, 48-17

LIME RIDGE – Saturday’s season opener was one of those games where the final score isn’t indicative of how close the game truly was.

Shenandoah Valley opened the season on the road at Wen Cerra Memorial Field, home of the Columbia Montour Vo-Tech Rams. The Devils got off to a sluggish start, falling behind 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Jonnuel Reyes scored a touchdown run followed up by a Devils fumble recovery, setting up a Jeremy Thomas rushing score to tie the game up.

The Devils briefly took the lead, thanks to a 40-yard boot by Sam Mentusky, who scored two goals in a Shenandoah’s soccer matchup that ended about an hour before kickoff.

At the half, it was 20-17, but that was all she wrote for Shenandoah’s offense on the day.

The Rams depth showed in the second half, and they took the victory 48-17.

Shenandoah returns home to Veterans Memorial Stadium Friday, hosting Minersville.
