HS BASKETBALL: Lourdes girls rout Mahanoy in battle for Schuylkill League D2 lead

MAHANOY CITY – Joe Alansky Gymnasium played host to a girls’ basketball battle between two squads undefeated in Schuylkill League Division 2 play.

Mahanoy Area (8-1, 5-0 D2) hosted Lourdes Regional (8-1, 3-0 D2) Tuesday night.

The typically-dominant Golden Bears found themselves stifled by a stout Lady Raiders defense which had only given up more than 20 points three times this year. Tuesday night was no exception.

In fact, Mahanoy Area was held scoreless well into the second quarter, breaking a 13-0 rally with a basket with just over 5:00 left in the first half.

By the halftime break, it was 25-4 in Lourdes favor.

The Lady Raiders added to their lead in the second half, taking the victory 48-12.

Mahanoy Area is on the road next, facing Executive Education Charter on Thursday.

Lourdes has Nativity at home Wednesday evening.
