HS BASEBALL: Devils take down Bears, 6-4

MAHANOY CITY – Shenandoah Valley defeated a rival and clinched a spot in the District XI playoffs Friday afternoon.
Mahanoy Area hosted the Blue Devils in the first of two matchups between the rival squads this year.
Both teams had one run in the first inning. Mahanoy took the lead in the second, leading 2-1.
Shenandoah added two runs in the third and never looked back, winning 6-4.
The Devils had seven hits and two errors, while Mahanoy had eight hits and three errors.
Shenandoah senior Brayden Maksimik led the Devils in hits with four and one run batted in.
Brandon Boris, Chase McCole, and Landon Monaghan each added one hit apiece.
McCole led the team in RBIs with two. Maksimik, Johnny Burke, and Monaghan each added one apiece.
On the mound, Ethan Bench started the game and had two strikeouts and gave up two runs on four hits in two innings.
Maksimik pitched four innings, with seven strikeouts and two runs off four hits.
The Devils are 11-5 overall and are third in the District XI 2A standings, clinching a spot in the playoffs. Mahanoy is 2-12 overall.
The two squads face off again Tuesday at Marty DeLuca Memorial Field in Shenandoah.
