Homemade bomb found at Tamaqua brush fire
TAMAQUA – Firefighters here found a homemade bomb Wednesday night as they contained a brush fire in the borough’s Dutch Hill section.
Tamaqua Police said first responders were dispatched to the area of Clark and Biddle Streets just before 10pm for the reported brush fire.
Around 10:15pm, Tamaqua South Ward’s fire chief alerted police to what appeared to be a homemade bomb.
Personnel from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) had requested the State Police Bomb Squad to the scene.
Around 11pm, a federal agent with the FBI Bomb Squad and a corporal from the State Police Bomb Squad based in Allentown arrived and the area was cleared. Around midnight, they completed a controlled detonation of the device.
