Helipad, Kehley Run waterfall posted off-limits after reported shooting
KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - A new block and sign are seen at the entrance to the Shenandoah Helipad on East Washington Street on July 22, 2025.
SHENANDOAH – The Shenandoah helipad and the path to the Kehley Run waterfall are now posted as off-limits. Borough officials tell the Sentinel it follows a recent reported shooting in the area.
Last month, borough police reported that two teens riding ATVs in the area, near the Shen Penn stripping pit, may have been fired upon. Shots were heard fired and it is unclear if the shots were in the teens’ direction.
Recently, two blocks were placed at the entrance to the helipad at the end of East Washington Street and numerous signs have been posted at the helipad and the adjoining Antz-owned property.

Borough Manager Mike Cadau told the Sentinel Tuesday afternoon that the signs and blocks were placed in coordination with borough police and the adjacent property owners as a result of the recent incident.
A dirt path branching off from the helipad leads back to the Kehley Run waterfall and to the abandoned Shen Penn stripping pit. That path has also been signed no trespassing.
Both have been frequent hotspots for unsanctioned recreation. The latter, also, was the site of several deaths in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.
