Hazleton, NS earn region marching titles

ORWIGSBURG – A pair of local marching bands continued a trend of competitive excellence last weekend.

The Hazleton Area Marching Cougars won first place at the Tournament of Bands Region 2 Championship at Blue Mountain on Saturday, Oct. 18.

The band secured first place in Group 2-A with a score of 85.5, earning top honors in music, visual, percussion, and auxiliary.

In addition to the ensemble awards, several individual recognitions were presented.

Senior guard member Ciarra Bracero was selected to receive the Tournament of Bands Region 2 Scholarship for her dedication and excellence in performance.

Callum Dormer and Jareyvi Elich Santiago also received Individual Performer Awards for their outstanding contributions to the program.

North Schuylkill and Mahanoy Area also competed in Region 2 Championships.

The Spartans took home first place in Group 1-A with a score of 77.17.

Back to Group 2-A, the Golden Bears came second with a score of 65.23.

It’s the second year in a row the Cougars have come home with a banner, and the fourth year inn a row for the Spartans.

Hazleton and North Schuylkill will be back in action this coming weekend for the Atlantic Coast Championships at Hershey.

The Spartans perform Saturday, Nov. 1 while the Cougars take the field Sunday, Nov. 2.
