Hazleton indoor guard units perform at Lower Dauphin

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL - The Hazleton Area Indoor Guard performs at a competition on Feb. 22, 2025 in Hummelstown.
HUMMELSTOWN – Some local scholastic musicians and performers took to the gym floor in competition this weekend in Dauphin County.
Lower Dauphin High School in Hummelstown hosted a Tournament Indoor Association competition Saturday. TIA is one of several indoor guard competition circuits in Pennsylvania.
Hazleton Area is the only Sentinel area school district that fields an indoor guard program, fielding an indoor guard unit — bandfront only — and a winds program, which includes instrumentalists as well.
Unlike marching band competitions in the fall, independent units participate as well, including Requiem, an organization based in Northumberland County. Two North Schuylkill students participate in that program, which performed Saturday.
Hazleton Area finished fourth out of seven in the Scholastic Novice guard division with a 62.98 score. Hazleton’s winds unit was the only one to compete, earning a score of 63.75.
