Hazleton girls take tip off tournament crown; hoops roundup
HAZLE TOWNSHIP – The Hazleton Area Lady Cougars opened their season with back-to-back wins and a tournament title.
They hosted the Lady Cougars Tip-Off Tournament on Friday and Saturday at the Hughie-McGeehan Gymnasium in Hazle Township.
The Cougars opened the tournament with a win over Nazareth 52-32.
Alexis Reimold and Sophia Shults led in scoring for the Cougars with 11-apiece, followed by Kaitlyn Bindas with 9 and Sophia Benyo with 8.
In the tournament championship game, Hazleton dominated Wyomissing 48-14.
Kaitlyn Bindas led in scoring for the Cougars with 16, followed by Sophia Shultz with 10 and Mariah Marolo with 9.
Shenandoah Girls
The Shenandoah Valley girls squad opened their season Friday with a rout of Columbia Montour Vo-Tech, 52-4.
Morgan Labosky led the Devils with 20 points while Gianna Donovan added 15.
The girls were back in action Monday at home hosting the Kutztown Cougars. The Devils fell 36-21.
