Hazle Twp. motorcyclist dies after hitting deer in Carbon
BANKS TWP., Carbon County – A Hazle Township man passed away from injuries sustained in a motorcycle wreck near Beaver Meadows, Carbon County on April 8.
State Police at Hazleton said Monday the crash happened around 6:30pm on Spring Mountain Road east of Beaver Meadows.
Ricardo J. Ortiz, 39, of Hazle Township was headed east on Spring Mountain Road towards Weatherly on a 2001 Honda Shadow when two deer entered the roadway.
Ortiz struck one of the deer and lost control of the bike, leading to the bike falling and Ortiz being thrown. Troopers said Ortiz was wearing a helmet.
Ortiz was treated at the scene by McAdoo Ambulance personnel and taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Hazleton. From there, he was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest in Lehigh County.
State Police said Ortiz was pronounced dead around 5:30pm April 9.
