Go Joe wraps Schuylkill/North’d section
ASHLAND – Joe Snedeker’s charity bike ride completed the rest of its tour through Schuylkill and Northumberland counties today on its way to Hughesville.
Snedeker, WNEP-TV 16’s morning meteorologist, rode his bike from WNEP in Moosic, Lackawanna County, to Shenandoah yesterday for the first leg of Go Joe 24, the 24th edition of his charity bike ride for St. Joseph’s Center in Scranton.
Today, setting off from the old Schuylkill Mall site bright and early at 8:00am, Snedeker rode through downtown Frackville and down the Gold Star into Gilberton.
At Lehigh and Oak Streets in Frackville, a group of residents, many holding signs and providing donations, were waiting for him.
From there, Joe picked up the pace, getting through Gilberton and Girardville in short order.
In Ashland, Police Chief Gerald Daley and Assistant Fire Chief Charlie Orth were waiting at Groody’s Catering to provide Snedeker an escort through town. WNEP reporter Chris Keating arrived in advance of Snedeker and told them it wouldn’t be needed.
Uptown, at the Ashland High Rise, employees from the Ashland Post Office, plus additional residents and a spectacle-wearing pit bull named Knuckles were waiting. Orth and Daley provided traffic control at that intersection when Joe arrived.
Farther uptown, more people were waiting to greet Snedeker at May’s Drive-In, including the owner of the restaurant.
From there, Snedeker continued on to Mount Carmel via Locustdale and Merriam.
Mount Carmel Township Police began escorting Snedeker near Merriam and continued down into Mount Carmel, where Mount Carmel Borough Police and the Clover Fire Co. were waiting to join in, while Mount Carmel Township Fire Police controlled traffic at key intersections.
All along Hickory Street, residents were cheering Snedeker on and providing donations for St. Joseph’s Center.
Mary Snyder, Mount Carmel, was waiting with a sign adorned with dollar bills, reading “Go Joe <3 Mount Carmel <3 We Love You.”
“We came out because we love him. He’s the best weatherman in the world,” Snyder said.
Emergency services continued to escort Snedeker through Mount Carmel borough and the township towards Kulpmont, where employees at the Kulpmont Post Office and parishioners from Holy Angels Church greeted Snedeker and donated to the cause.
Snedeker continued on through Shamokin, Elysburg, Danville, and Washingtonville towards Hughesville to complete day two of the ride.
The ride continues Thursday, from Moosic to Wyalusing.
It all wraps up Saturday with a ride from Susquehanna to Marywood University and the St. Joseph’s Festival.
