Glass added to Shenandoah recycling program
SHENANDOAH – Shenandoah’s recycling pilot program will now accept glass along with plastic bottles starting with the next collection.
Councilman John Thomas made that announcement at Monday’s council meeting.
The pilot program began a few months ago and saw 25 households participate. At first, only plastic bottles were collected, and the borough planned to review the program every few months and expand it when possible.
Council said previously that the program could save the borough, with exorbitant tipping fees rising at local waste transfer stations.
The collections take place monthly on every second Friday.
Glass and plastic items will now be accepted and do not need to be kept separate, council said.
