GIRARDVILLE – A Girardville man will spend the next two years in federal prison, followed by two years of supervised release, after authorities say he unlawfully purchased firearms for another individual.
Theodore R. Stang Jr, 31, of Girardville was sentenced yesterday to the prison term by U.S. District Judge Malachy E. Mannion.
Authorities say that, in June of 2017, Stang acted as a “straw purchaser of firearms,” buying two handguns for a person who wasn’t legally permitted to purchase or own a firearm. The unnamed person had prior criminal convictions and was involved in narcotics trafficking, which Stang knew, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and explosives, and is a part of the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s project Safe Neighborhoods program, which is intended to bring together all levels of law enforcement and communities to “reduce violent crime and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.”
