GIRARDVILLE – A local landmark received recognition Thursday night for half a century under its current ownership.

Tony’s Lunch has been a Girardville staple since 1939. Founded by Anthony “Tony” Fulginiti, the popular shop on East Main Street sold to Joseph and Claire Salukas in 1975.

Girardville Mayor Michael Zangari stopped by Thursday night to recognize the restaurant’s longevity and 50 years under the Salukas family.

He and Councilwoman Tammy Zangari presented a plaque with a $50 bill to the restaurant’s owners.

“On behalf of all the residents and visitors of Girardville Borough, we would like to wish you congratulations on a wonderful 50 years of business,” the plaque reads. “Here is to the next 50 years of checking to ‘see if the light’s on!'”

The restaurant has been a go-to for “screamers” and fluff burgers since the 1930s. Last year, their specialty made a list of 35 best burger varieties in the world.
