Girardville cemetery clean-up set for March 14; volunteers wanted
GIRARDVILLE – Another clean-up is set for next weekend in the ongoing effort to restore St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Girardville.
The clean-up is set for March 14 from 8am to 1pm, and volunteers are needed for the effort.
The cemetery, located on Mahanoy Avenue between Julia and Line Streets, is “in desperate need of restoration,” according to a release.
Volunteers will be needed for cutting weeds, limbs, and other vegetation.
Any high school students in need of community service hours will be given such credit for their efforts.
In 2018, several meetings were held to determine what, if any, action would take place to restore the cemeteries. Since then, clean-ups have occurred intermittently in the effort to restore the large, hillside cemetery.
