Gerneth announces bid for East Union Township Supervisor
SHEPPTON – East Union Township’s incumbent chairman will be challenged for his seat on the board of supervisors this year.
Stefan Gerneth announced Tuesday his intend to run for township supervisor.
A 16-year resident of the township, Gerneth and his wife own a farm where he says they care for rescued horses.
He is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and has worked in digital forensics in law enforcement for decades.
“I have collaborated with federal, state, and local agencies to bring some of the most dangerous criminals to justice. I have testified against murderers, child predators, and corrupt police officers,” he said. “Additionally, I have had the privilege of teaching law enforcement agencies across the country in the field of Digital Forensics, sharing my knowledge and experience to improve investigative efforts nationwide.”
Gerneth said his is running for township supervisor “to ensure that our local government operates ethically, responsibly, and in the best interest of our community.”
“I hold myself to a high standard of ethics and integrity—standards that have been proven and vetted throughout my career,” he said. “My top priority will be putting the needs and concerns of our residents first.”
“One of the key issues I plan to address is the township’s struggle to retain quality police officers. By fostering an ethical and supportive work environment, we can build a department that truly serves and protects our community,” he added.
He also noted fiscal responsibility as another priority, saying that he will ensure taxpayer dollars are spent wisely, avoiding unnecessary projects, excessive legal fees, and reckless spending.
“Most importantly, I promise to listen to every member of this community with respect, even when we may not see eye to eye,” he said. “I will set aside any differences to ensure that everyone has an equal voice. Finding common ground and working together is how we make East Union Township stronger.”
“This is my home, and it’s where I plan to spend the rest of my life. I want to ensure my children feel the same pride and love for this beautiful area as I do,” he added.
Supervisors Chairman Kyle Mummey’s term in office expires at the end of this year.
