Frackville man transported after east end crash
SHENANDOAH – A crash on the east end of town sent a Frackville man to the hospital Saturday afternoon.
The crash happened around 4:45pm on Route 54 about 800 feet west of Yatesville Road.
Borough police said William Rumbel, of Frackville, was headed westbound on Route 54 towards the borough in a Toyota Corolla sedan.
Officers said their investigation is ongoing, but, preliminary, it appeared Rumbel was travelling at a high rate of speed and overnegotiated the roadway.
Rumbel’s vehicle struck the embankment on the south side of the roadway, before his sedan rolled.
At the time firefighters were dispatched, Rumbel was still trapped in the sedan.
Firefighters from Shenandoah’s Rescue, Hook, and Ladder and Columbia fire companies were on scene within minutes, along with Shenandoah Ambulance, Shenandoah Police, and Mahanoy City’s West End Fire Company.
Rumbel was extricated from the vehicle in short order and transported to a local hospital by Shenandoah Ambulance.
Shenandoah Fire Police closed the highway between Yatesville Road and Franklin Street until fire crews cleared the scene around 5:30pm.
Steve’s Towing, Shenandoah, removed the vehicle.
