FRACKVILLE – Taxes won’t increase for Frackville residents in 2019, but the garbage bill will, after the borough approved their 2019 budget and awarded a garbage contract at a special meeting Thursday evening.
Taxes in Frackville will remain 17.08 mills, after the borough approved their budget with revenues and expenditures of $2,181,296.
The borough awarded the garbage contract to County Waste for three years for the collection of garbage and recycling.
As a result of an increase of $49,440, the borough also moved to increase the garbage bill by $28 a year, or $7 per quarter. Currently, the cost is $70 a quarter.
“The garbage and recyclables went up extensively, so that was the reason we raised the garbage (bill), to match that,” said Council President Ron Jordan.
In other business, borough council approved:
- Scheduling interviews for a full-time borough worker
- A cost of living increase for retired police officers.
