PATTERSONVILLE – The former Tri-State Envelope warehouse in Pattersonville, one of the first industrial development successes post-coal boom in the Shenandoah area, is up for sale.
Tri-State Envelope ceased local operations late last year.
The Pattersonville complex on Pattersonville Road was listed for sale in February. The asking price is just under $3 Million and it includes the former Purolator plant and a newer warehouse next door, totaling 118,000 square feet.
The former Purolator plant was built in the early 1950s by the Shenandoah Chamber of Progress, a predecessor to the Shenandoah Chamber of Commerce.
It was one of the first industrial development successes in our area as the anthracite coal industry continued to falter. Purolator announced plans to move in in 1951, according to the Mahanoy City Record-American at the time.
Tri-State Envelope bought the plant in the 1980s for use as a warehouse. The latter company, now owned by Moore, was also a major mid-century development success in the Ashland. Tri-State was founded in 1966 by Joel Orgler and the Ashland plant was one of the company’s first plants, if not the first.
Moore purchased the company in December 2021 and one-by-one, began closing plants. Now, only Wapello, Iowa remains of Tri-State’s former plants.
