Football media day serves as unofficial season kickoff

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN – Schuylkill County’s football stars were in the spotlight Wednesday during the 22nd Schuylkill County Football Coaches Association Media Day.
The event was held at the Schuylkill Haven High School fieldhouse and, for the first time, the Sentinel was invited to join in the festivities.
Athletes from Shenandoah Valley, Mahanoy Area, and North Schuylkill joined teams from across the Schuylkill League, including Nativity, Marian, Minersville, and Tri-Valley.
Schuylkill Haven Coach and SCFCA President Mike Farr served as master of ceremonies. He received a shoutout from Pottsville head coach Mike Brennan for his work organizing events like Media Day.
Members of the Schuylkill County Historical Society were also on hand highlighting the 100th anniversary of the Pottsville Maroons.
Special helmet stickers have been developed to commemorate the centennial and they sought teams to don them.
