Flames damage Mount Carmel apartment building

MOUNT CARMEL – Firefighters from Northumberland and Schuylkill Counties converged on downtown Mount Carmel for a reported apartment building fire.
Flames broke out around 5:30pm in the unit block of West Third Street.

Crews arrived to find fire burning within the façade of the multi-use structure.
Firefighters remained on the scene for over an hour, pulling apart the façade to gain access to and douse hotspots.

No injuries were immediately reported.
Responding to the scene were firefighters from Mount Carmel, Shamokin, Ashland, Englewood, Atlas, Kulpmont, and more, along with EMS from Ashland and AREA Services.
