Fireworks co. plans shoot-off at W. Mahanoy plant
SHENANDOAH HEIGHTS – If you hear fireworks in the Frackville area on May 1, don’t call the police, West Mahanoy supervisors asked at Tuesday’s regular meeting.
Jake’s Fireworks, in the Frackville Industrial Park in West Mahanoy Township, is hosting a shoot-off to show off their 2021 product line to wholesalers on May 1, and has received a permit to do so, in accordance with West Mahanoy’s fireworks ordinance.
The shoot-off is a private event for wholesalers who RSVPed.
“Just so everybody’s aware, please do not call the police department on it,” Paul “Pepper” Martin, township supervisor, said.
Martin said it could last an hour or two at dusk.
Such events are held across the nation, including Pittsburg, Kansas; Aiken, South Carolina, and Elkhart, Indiana.
In other business, township supervisors approved the hiring of Brian Gilbert and Tyler Livergood as spring/summer help for the road crew at a rate of $10 an hour.
Supervisors also approved advertising for a full-time road worker and to approve two tax claim sales, 100 Schuylkill Ave for $1,777 and 208 Florida Ave for $2,500.
Supervisors Chairwoman Lauren Amato also thanked a group of volunteers, organized by Debra Ulicny, who cleaned the sides of the roads on Pennsylvania Avenue and Weston Place.
“They did a fantastic job and we really appreciate the volunteer work,” Amato said.
Jake’s website says the event is canceled.
