Firefighters, nature, handle brush fire in Mahanoy Township

BUCK MOUNTAIN – Firefighters from Mahanoy City and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) battled a brush fire near this village, eventually with some help from Mother Nature.
The brush fire broke out in the woodlands between Mahanoy City and Buck Mountain and smoke could be seen from atop the hills north and south of Mahanoy City.
As crews worked to contain the blaze, which did not threaten any nearby structures, Mother Nature lent a helping hand in the form of a downpour.
No injuries were reported in the firefight.
