Firefighters make quick work of Shenandoah west end house fire
SHENANDOAH – On one of the coldest nights of the winter, and in recent memory, Shenandoah firefighters responded to a reported house fire on the west end.
Crews were called just before 4am to the 500 block of West Arlington Street.
They arrived to find a bedroom fire at 511 West Arlington Street.
Temperatures at the time hovered around -4°F in the borough.
The fire was brought under control within about half an hour and the majority of units were released by 4:45am.
Shenandoah Fire Chief Rick Examitas said no injuries were reported. Two residents and a pet are staying with family.
The fire was contained to a second floor rear bedroom.
A State Police fire marshal was on scene to investigate. The fire was ruled accidental, caused by careless smoking.
Examitas said there were working smoke alarms throughout the home.
Assisting Shenandoah firefighters were crews from Mahanoy City and Frackville.
