Firefighters handle fire at Shenandoah Family Development

TURKEY RUN – Firefighters tackled an apartment fire in the Shenandoah Family Development in this section of town early Tuesday morning.
Crews were called just before 2am to 208 Pioneer Road in the Turkey Run section of Shenandoah for a reported fire.
Shenandoah Police arrived and found a couch aflame in the residence.
Fire crews arrived shortly after and thick black smoke was seen coming from the unit when firefighters entered.
The fire was brought under control within an hour.
No injuries were immediately reported. It is not yet known how many are displaced.
A State Police fire marshal was at the scene to investigate and a representative of the Schuylkill County Housing Authority was on scene as well.
Crews from Shenandoah, Mahanoy City, and Frackville responded.
