Fire-damaged building collapses in Mt. Carmel

MOUNT CARMEL, Northumberland County – A building damaged by fire last year in this borough suffered a partial collapse this afternoon, closing roads and downing power lines.

The collapse happened just before 4:00pm at Second and Maple Streets in the borough.

Part of the upper facade of the three story apartment building fell into the sidewalk and road below, downing utility lines.

Fire officials at the scene said the building was in the process of being demolished.

No injuries were reported, and the roads in the immediate vicinity were closed for about an hour as utility crews repaired the downed lines.

The apartment building was damaged by fire last March.
