SHENANDOAH – Final preparations are underway for a celebration of two of the greatest moments in Blue Devil football.

This year marks 50 years since Shenandoah Valley stunned the football world and downed the Mount Carmel Red Tornadoes, who had their sights set on an Eastern Conference title fight, in a 26-15 upset.

The Class of 1976, whose members were seniors on that 1975 squad, are organizing a celebration for the final home game of the season as the Blue Devils host their archrivals, Mahanoy Area on Oct. 24.

It isn’t just a celebration of their team. They will also recognize the 1958 Blue Devils, who took down Mount Carmel 26-0 in the Silver Bowl.

Members of both classes are expected to be on-hand.

There are two other notable events for the Shenandoah-Mahanoy game this year.

In addition to being senior night, both Mahanoy Area and Shenandoah Valley are selling t-shirts to raise money for SV grad and Mahanoy Area teacher Leanne Hall who is battling cancer.

“In the spirit of true sportsmanship both schools are helping to champion this very worthwhile cause,” a representative of the Class of 1976 said.

After the game, there will be a social at the Columbia Hose firehouse.

“Music, food, and beverages all available and everyone is invited,” organizers said. “A lot of excitement, indeed, is building in Shenandoah for Friday, October 24th.”
