Film crew descends on former hospital
FOUNTAIN SPRINGS – At a quick glance, one might think the former Saint Catherine Medical Center was being used for National Guard training Saturday.
Throughout the day, dozens of actors, many in uniforms and gear mimicking modern military combat attire, came in and out of the abandoned hospital near Ashland for some sort of media production.
Dozens more vehicles, trailers, and tents swarmed the parking lot on the east side of the property. Most of the vehicles had out-of-state plates.
Cohorts Entertainment LLC is using the property for some sort of media production.
From nearby Route 61, bangs could be heard coming from within the property and light smoke emanated from part of the structure Saturday afternoon.
The hospital, Schuylkill County’s first hospital and northern Schuylkill’s last, closed in 2012 and has been abandoned since.
It is currently owned by Ashland Properties LLC.
