Fifth vacant building fire in town since Dec. under investigation
SHENANDOAH – The cause of Shenandoah’s fifth vacant building fire since Dec. 30 is under investigation.
Firefighters were called to a home at 215 East Cherry Street — near Bower and Grant Streets — for a reported structure fire just after midnight Thursday morning.
When crews arrived, smoke could be seen venting from the eaves of the roof.
Firefighters from Shenandoah, Mahanoy City, and Frackville made quick work of the blaze, having the fire knocked down within about half an hour.
No injuries were reported.
The home had been vacant for several years and, according to the Schuylkill County Parcel Locator, has been owned by Joseph and Anna Palubinsky since 1972.
Thursday morning’s blaze marks the fifth vacant building to burn since Dec. 30 in Shenandoah. Three of those fires — on West Arlington, South Grant, and Furnace Streets — were ruled arson. Another, behind Boyer’s Food Markets, was deemed suspicious.
Shenandoah Fire Chief Rick Examitas said a State Police fire marshal will be on scene later in the morning to investigate.
