SHENANDOAH – A former Shenandoah Valley head coach better known for his tenure in Pottsville, which earned him a spot in the PSFCA Hall of Fame, passed away Thursday.

Kevin Keating came out of retirement to coach the Blue Devils for three seasons beginning in 2017.

Keating’s Devils struggled to find success on the gridiron, going 1-9 in 2017 with a victory over Kutztown. The Devils were winless in 2018 and 2019, qualifying for the District XI playoffs after Marian Catholic forfeited.

Though, Keating’s tenure is well-regarded by players from the era for successes off-the-field.

He resigned after the 2019 season, citing health concerns.

Keating is certainly better known for his tenure leading the Pottsville Area Crimson Tide in two stints, from 1986 to 1999 and then from 2003-2012. There, he is the winningest coach in Pottsville history.
