Ex-Shenandoah cop arrested for police impersonation

WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP – A former Shenandoah police officer is facing charges after police in the Wyoming Valley say he identified himself as an off-duty cop when pulled over with a fake temporary plate.
Angel Abreu-Nunez, 32, of Hazleton, was charged with misdemeanor impersonating a public servant and forging a fraudulent registration, among other charges over the weekend.
According to Wilkes-Barre Township Police, Abreu-Nunez was stopped while he was driving with a counterfeit Pennsylvania temporary license plate on Saturday. The traffic stop happened around 1:13am Saturday on Wilkes-Barre Township Boulevard.
He identified himself to officers as an off-duty police officer, providing an identification card for a police department in Schuylkill County.
Wilkes-Barre Township Police did not identify which department, but Abreu-Nunez worked part-time for the Shenandoah Borough Police Department.

The Schuylkill County department said Abreu-Nunez hadn’t worked there for about a year and the officer was taken into custody.
Abreu-Nunez had another ID card and badge for another department in Schuylkill County that he no longer worked for.
Police said he couldn’t name a department he actually worked for.
Inside his vehicle, police found more temporary plates that “showed signs he was creating them himself.”
He was arraigned Saturday and committed to Luzerne County Prison, unable to post 10% of $50,000 bail.
