Ex-secretary convicted of theft pens apology letter to borough, residents
SHENANDOAH – At Monday night’s meeting, Shenandoah Borough Council read aloud an apology letter from their former secretary convicted of theft of funds.
Alyssa Lynn Boris pleaded guilty to a single felony count of theft by unlawful taking last month.
She was accused of swiping nearly $27,000 in sewer and trash deposits in 2022. She was sentenced to five years supervised probation and to pay full restitution to the borough.
At Monday’s meeting, Council President Joe Boris — no relation — read aloud a letter she submitted apologizing for the theft.
“I understand that taking borough funds into my own personal funds is irresponsible and illegal,” Alyssa Boris wrote. “I apologize for all the wrongdoing on my part and the problems that it caused for the borough and its residents.”
“The responsibility of my job was to make deposits into the sewer and trash accounts and failing to do so was completely wrong,” Alyssa Boris wrote, as read by Council President Joe Boris. “I understand the strain and negativity publicly this act has caused and, for that, I am sincerely sorry.”
Borough Manager Tony Sajone said that the borough did receive a check for the full restitution amount.
