Ex-East Union cop accused of using law enforcement systems to search for ex-wife, others after firing
KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL FILE - East Union Township Police Officer Doug Litwhiler
SHEPPTON – East Union Township’s ex-officer in charge is facing a host of felony computer crimes charges, accused of accessing law enforcement databases after he was fired.
Doug Litwhiler, 41, of Mill Grove, is facing 21 felony charges of unlawful access to computer systems along with misdemeanor stalking, misdemeanor official oppression, and summary harassment.
The charges were filed by the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General on Tuesday.
According to the complaint filed by Special Agent Daniel Shead, Ashland Police received a stalking and harassment complaint in November, leading to the discovery of 21 inappropriate or unauthorized law enforcement database searches .
Searches included for his ex-wife, the alleged stalking victim’s license plate numbers as well as his photo, a contractor working for his ex-wife, and more.
All but one — the search for his ex-wife — took place after he was fired by East Union Township Police.
None of the searches, the complaint states, related to any official police business.
Additionally, attorney general’s office officials received a statement from Litwhiler’s ex-wife relating to a no-contact order which Litwhiler allegedly breached by driving past her house on multiple occasions and sending text messages.
Litwhiler was arraigned Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker and briefly committed to Schuylkill County Prison unable to post 10% of $25,000 bail.
Litwhiler posted bail himself on Wednesday.
A preliminary hearing is set for next Wednesday.
Litwhiler was East Union Township’s officer-in-charge until October 2025, when supervisors voted 3-0 to fire him.
Charges were filed a month later against him for an incident in the Poconos involving his ex-wife. He remains free on bail as those charges proceed through Monroe County Court.
