Englewood block party unofficially kicks off summer in northern Schuylkill
ENGLEWOOD – As the sound of sirens echoed through the mountain city, one thing was certain: summertime has unofficially begun in northern Schuylkill County.
The Friendship Fire Co. of Englewood kicked off their block party Friday with a fire truck parade in the evening.
Fire companies from across Schuylkill County, as well as several from Northumberland and Luzerne Counties, participated in this year’s parade, including companies from as far as Sunbury, Pitman, and Sacramento.
Back at the firehouse on Seventh Street in Butler Township, volunteers fried up bleenies and cooked bean soup in a cauldron over an open fire.
Hundreds of people visited the firehouse grounds for those and other food items, plus games for kids and live music.
The block party continues Saturday and Sunday. The kitchen opens at noon each day.
