ELECTION 2025: Morgan defeats incumbent Phillips in race for Frackville Mayor

FRACKVILLE – Frackville may have a new mayor for the first time in 16 years next year.
Longtime Mayor Kim Phillips trailed challenger John M. Morgan Jr. by 200 votes Tuesday evening in the Republican mayoral primary, according to preliminary results provided by the Schuylkill County Election Bureau.
Phillips has been mayor in Frackville since 2009, according to the borough website.
On the Democratic side of the ballot, 120 write-ins were cast. No Democrats were on the ballot.
In the council race, two newcomers will likely have Republican nominations.
Political newcomer John Matern was the top vote-getter with 337 votes. Incumbents Ed Beneshunas and Steve Kuzio followed with 310 and 304 votes respectively.

Tylor Blackwell received 275 votes to receive the fourth nomination.
Incumbent Stephen Tertel and Nicole Russell received 252 votes and 214 votes respectively, falling outside the four nominations.
On the Democratic side, 190 write-in votes were cast.
Write-in results will be released in the coming days.
