East Union to revise ATV ordinance
SHEPPTON – East Union Township supervisors voted this past Thursday to strengthen its ordinances on all-terrain vehicles.
Solictor Donald Karpowich recommended the revisions.
“It would require written permission from the owner for an ATV to be on their property, and for a property owner that has tracks, courses, or obstacles on their property for ATVs would have to obtain zoning approval for a recreational facility,” Karpowich said.
Additionally, fueling an ATV that isn’t secured on a trailer would be a violation of the ordinance, Karpowich said, and that both the ATV owner and the person dispensing the gasoline would be liable.
Karpowich said that the operation of three or more ATVs at one time would require zoning approval as well.
The fines would be increased as well, Karpowich said, increasing the maximum fine to $600 for a second or subsequent offense, and to $300 for a first offense.
Supervisors voted to advertise the updated ordinance, and they intend to approve it at next month’s meeting.
